Introducing the
Grain Collective
The Grain Collective is back for a winter season! We want to bring you grain products from around the upper Midwest and this time you’ll see grains from four farms across four states. Just like the summer box, we have a box with gluten containing grains and one containing gluten free grains. All of these farms care deeply about the land producing delicious grains. Read more about each producer below!
These boxes are perfect for every kind of cook! If rice is a staple in your meals, the rice from Cahokia will make an easy, flavorful upgrade. Looking to take your pastries to the next level? The high-quality flour is just what you need. These grains and flours are not only delicious and approachable but also support small farms committed to doing things right.
Featured Regional Grain Producers
Cahokia Rice is grown using regenerative farming methods, making it 53% more protein-rich than other rice. Certified non-GMO and Sustainable Farm through Food Alliance, they prioritize soil health and biodiversity. Ducks and geese naturally fertilize and weed the fields, reducing water usage by 52% and creating wetlands that support diverse ecosystems. Locally grown on a four-generation family farm, they prioritize community impact by donating rice to food banks and maintaining a lower carbon footprint.
The Grainery works to bring you the freshest rolled oats possible! Traditional oat milling uses steam to soften the oats for rolling but The Grainery’s mill are flaked fresh without steam providing natural flavor and texture from the mill straight to your bowl. They are based in Kalamazoo, Michigan.
Located in Three Oaks, Michigan, Granor Farm is a diversified organic farm cultivating grains, vegetables, flowers, and herbs. They farm approximately 500 acres in the area surrounding our original 35 acres, Granor’s base of operations. Granor’s farming operations focus on cultivating a wide variety of organic ingredients to support our farm store, CSA, greenhouse dining experience, bread-making, summer camp and next year a wine and spirits program.
Meadowlark Organics is operating on 950 organic acres in the Madison, Wisconsin area. John and Halee are carrying on Paul Bickford’s, their mentor, commitment to organic agriculture as they regenerate the land while providing high quality food to their community. They are vertically integrated so the flour in the Grain Collective box was grown, cleaned and milled on their farm. They have become an important part of the upper Midwest grain shed!
The cornmeal in this Grain Collective Box is from Mud Run Farm in Navarre, Ohio run by father-daughter duo Alex and Alexis. They transitioned the farm from a 6 head dairy to a certified organic, diverse vegetable and small grains operation. All the flour they sell is milled on site using two stone mills keeping lots of nutrition and flavor for the tastiest of baked goods. Alexis and her father use draft horses to do some of their farming where it makes sense and is better for the soil.
