Blessings in a Backpack Recap

Some of you might remember the initiative The Purple Beet, ready to blend smoothie pack company up north, and I undertook at the peak of quarantine - Bowls for the Brave (blog recapping that here). Well with schools reopening with a variety of methods either virtual, in person or some hybrid, I couldn’t stop thinking about the food insecure families that rely on schools for some of their meals.

I set out to find an organization addressing the problem - looked online a bit but mostly spoke with teachers who in the metro Detroit area. One non profit kept coming up as a recommendation called Blessings in a Backpack. This organization provides kids in need with meals for the weekend so they can get their proper nutrition at home. Each Friday, a teacher discreetly gives the child a backpack with 6 meals. For every weekend in the entire school year, a child can get those 6 meals for $110. In Michigan alone, 770,000 children are on the Federal lunch program*

We decided to donate all profits from sales this past Monday and Tuesday to the general Michigan chapter of Blessings in a Backpack so the funds could go where they were needed most. Teffola started the donation with $55. We ended up donating a total of $140! Thank you to those of you who donated. If you have your own purposeful work idea for us, please send us a note at: info [at] teneragrains[dot]com

The small acts of purposeful work bring us so much joy at Teffola - caring for our community after everything they've done for us. It just means a lot to us to strengthen our bonds and stick together.
